Western Australia vs Tasmania - anyone?

Tom and I are thinking about a small domestic trip next Easter (maybe this is a travel hangover from South America??)

I wanted to go to Uluru but Tom has seen it already so not really keen to go again.  He suggested Margaret River/Perth or Tasmania.  To be honest I don't know much about either so I'm hoping you can give me some advice.  We'd like a reasonably relaxing holiday - not too packed but not just sitting around doing nothing for 5 days.

Has anyone been to either and can make me a recommendation?

Thanks in advance :)

Oh PS is anyone NOT sick at the moment?  I've been sniffling/coughing/congested since last Tuesday.  Not fun.

  1. As a Tassie girl I definitely recommend Tasmania! Also I've never been to WA so I can't give any advice on it (although I would love to visit there soon!) If you are looking for warm weather I wouldn't suggest Tassie though as it can get quite cool by Easter time (but a bit unpredictable so could be warm haha) Lots of options for relaxing places to go (Cradle Mountain, East Coast etc) and fantastic food and wine. Hope this is a little bit helpful x

    1. Thanks, that's super helpful. I think there's more to do in Tassie which will keep us a bit entertained. Thanks for the suggestions, might have to ask you some more questions when I get into planning mode :)

  2. Tasmania. They have a chocolate factory and cheese!

  3. Tasmania. I'm a Perth girl as well! Perth is lovely but a bit far away from Sydney. It's got the wineries and so on in Margaret river (as well as the cheese and chocolate there) but Tasmania is truly special and very different climate and terrain wise.

I also love the apples there!

    1. Oooh it's good to hear an opinion on this by a Perth local! I will definitely have to investigate Tassie apples - I love apples. Do they produce Fuji apples?

  4. I love Margaret River but if you are not into visiting wineries I would probably do Tassie instead.
It has some good beaches and a few ok restaurants in town but the wineries are the main reason I usually go. Some of them like Voyager and Leewin Estate are amazing. There are some good spas and hotels also.

    1. Thanks Indi. Yeah I'm getting the feeling a WA trip will be city (Perth) + wineries (Margaret River) which... if I want to see a city + wineries I would stay in Sydney and go to the Hunter Valley, not travel cross country for that. I've pretty much decided on Tasmania thanks to all the recs :)
