European Honeymoon update

So I spent almost all of Saturday doing a bucketload of research for our European honeymoon (and incidentally spent ALL of Sunday looking for my engagement ring which I lost for 9 hours.  That's another story....)

London 4 days
Paris 4 days
Nice 2 days
Amsterdam 2 days
Berlin 3 days
Venice 1 day
Cinque Terre 2 days
Rome 3 days
Athens 1 day
Santorini 3 days
Barcelona (incl maybe San Sebastian) 5 days
Lisbon 4 days
Dubai/Abu Dhabi 4 days

I've been to London, Paris, Amsterdam and Venice before so I'm pretty sure about the time in each of those cities.  It may seem a bit short in some locations but I prefer to keep moving when travelling.  I've also broken up the trip with 'relaxing' cities every 3-4 cities.

What are your must-see's and must-do's in each of those cities?

  1. Great destinations-be aware though if you do that much in that time you will be exhausted, and it's a lot of time travelling and waiting in train stations and finding your accommodation etc.

    1. True :)

What would you recommend cutting and extending?

  2. Agree with Ness I think thats way too much travelling personally. Ive been everyone on your list except Dubai, I would personally cut Lisbon, Nice and Amsterdam and tack on a few extra days somewhere else. 1 day in Venice isn't much unless you are just using it as a gateway to somewhere else (even if you have been there before). Agree with Athens for 1 days though to get to Santorini. Enjoy.

    1. Indi I'm keen to understand what you didn't really like about Nice? And what other French city you would recommend in place of Nice? Bordeaux? Lyon?

      And why cut Lisbon?

Yeah I'm not that keen on Amsterdam but Tom really wants to go.

    2. Its not that I didn't like Nice, I just would prefer time in your other destinations. It was ok but nothing special. If you like pebbly beaches and spending $10 on a glass of lemonade you might like it haha. I havent spent a lot of time in France, I prefer Italy & Spain. Def do San Sebastian, one of my favourites.

Lisbon is just another city really. You already have a number of those so I would skip Lisbon. If you want to do Portugal I would recommend going to the Algarve instead.

      Have fun!

  4. That looks like such a fab itinerary! I really want to go to NY for our honeymoon, so I've been looking up different ideas surrounding that.

  5. I'm getting tired just looking at that itinerary! Definitely look into cutting back some of the destinations - remember you have the rest of your life to visit everywhere. I honestly do not think that any destination is worth going to for just one night, you leave as soon as you arrive. Like Indi C, I would also cull Nice from the list. To me it was like the LA of France. We enjoyed Avignon so much more, but then again that would just be adding to your list! Maybe instead look into adding two days to Athens? Or even cutting Athens and extending Santorini just to get a big relax. Also Dubai was interesting, but 4 days is way too long unless you have kids. We stayed there for 2 nights and it was plenty. My advice for that city is to definitely book a hotel right on the beach (that is with free BEACH ACCESS) or with a nice pool. Taxis are mega cheap so it is no problem to travel anywhere you desire in the city.

I was dying to go to Prague on our last Europe trip, but then in the end we ended up extending our stay in Germany and opted to just really relax.

    1. Ahhh ok, no Nice then!

We're actually planning 2 days Dubai, 2 days Abu Dhabi. My cousin is currently living over there with his girlfriend so mainly there to see them but also to be tourists.

You have to go through Athens to get to Santorini so giving Athens 1 day just to see a few things since we're there anyway. Might add 1 day to Santorini though. Also thinking of adding 1 day to Venice.

      Thanks for the feedback :)

  6. I hope to so Europe for our honeymoon too! Having been to almost all those places I would cut Nice and Lisborn completely. I would also consider reducing Barcelona unless you love clubbing/eating out late or are a big Gaudi art buff...Spain was not my cup of tea though I am an art buff so I loved Gaudi and Madrid for the Prado. Honestly I would probably cut Barcelona altogether and extend time in either London (day trip to Bath for example), or Paris (sooo much to do), or see more of the South of France but go to the Provence region, or extend time in Italy - I would add in Florence or the Lakes region (Lake Garda or Lake Como) or spend more time down south and see Naples, Pompeii, Siciliy. Dubai and Au Dhabi are very boring so I would avoid though I understand it may be a must if there is family there you want to visit.

    1. Well Barcelona is to visit family as well but I might cut that down and visit a second Spanish city as well. Defs want to do another French city as well, was thinking Burgundy?

Thinking of cutting Dubai/Abu Dhabi based on your feedback :)

  7. Quick reply to say I think its worth spending the 5 days in Barcelona and not going to San Sebastian unless you have a full week to split between the two. San Sebastian doesn't have a huge amount to do unless you plan to beach and eat, though I absolutely loved it there. I was alerted to the fact that it rains 200+ days of the year though so I was lucky that I got a few nice days, whereas some friends had rain their whole time there which really puts a spoiler on anything but eating. I did 4 days and 3 days BCN and San Seb respectively and 4 days isn't quite enough to relax, party and explore all the areas of BCN.

    1. Oooh I'm thinking 5 days in Barcelona and 2-3 in San Sebastian then. I'm not really one for going on holidays and just relaxing by the beach - I get too fidgety. Thanks for the feedback!!

  8. A couple of weeks ago I was in a dark period in my life, the man I love to bits had gone off with someone else, that was when I was told about this Dr Lababa. Well he told me he could see that we would get back together that gave me hope, and he was right, because this week we have moved in with each other and we are so happy. A big thank you to Dr Lababa. If you are in need of an angel please get in touch with my Dr Lababa via email:lababasolutiontemple@gmail.com
