Oh man I am so in love with this thing called bikram yoga. I haven't felt this positive about exercise since Dance a decade or so ago. The room is heated to a steamy 40 degrees and you get such an amazing stretch. In my first class I sat out about 1/2 the class as I wasn't acclimatised to the heat and felt very light-headed. I also struggled with the long drawn-out breathing exercise as I have very small lung capacity and couldn't handle long breaths.
I'm quite surprised how quickly my body has adjusted. My second class was immediately better and I only 'rested' for about 2 minutes in the entire 90-minute class. I drank considerably less water and felt less suffocated and tired throughout. A few classes later I'm finding myself able to push myself in the stretches and get a much deeper stretch than before.
In other news, last Friday was 365 days until I get hitched! Now the countdown is on... Is anyone interested in the DIY stuff I'm doing for the wedding?
Yes, show us the DIY!
ReplyDeleteI love yoga, but have never been to a proper class. Should actually check one out.
Yeah there's loads of different styles of yoga. I am by no means a yoga connoisseur as I've only tried bikram and hatha. I just love the heat of bikram.
DeleteYes! I got married immediately after I finished studying, so I don't think I enjoyed the process as much as I could have (DIY-ing and studying, that is). Also got married interstate...so that was difficult :P
ReplyDeleteAgree, love Bikram! I started a few classes last year...and my skin reacted badly for a month or so before clearing up :P
xx Deb
(deborahhw on insta/aka fellow voguette ;)
Oh I hadn't even thought about skin clearing up as a result of bikram. Have you felt any other changes?
DeleteI made a conscious decision not to rush into engagement/marriage/buying a house because I really wanted to enjoy it and have fun with it and not stress out too much. Hats off to you for being able to pull it off in such a jam-packed space of time!
Hats off to my husband, tbh for a lot of the nitty gritty painful bits of wedding prep! :-s
DeleteIt definitely cleared up after a month of Bikram! And I'm pretty sure it was the Bikram, because they were such unusual pimples that I'd never gotten before (and my diet/skin care/MU regime hadn't changed!)
Excited to follow your wedding journey though!! xx
PS I have been reading and loving your blog for a while...but I am also a lazy commenter :( xx
ReplyDeleteAww thanks Deb, it's truly lovely to hear things like that and it certainly made my day. Glad you are now commenting! I love interacting with people through blogland :)
DeleteKx.
I've done some hot yoga and really enjoy it, I was surprised how I found it quite doable considering I hate the heat - I've figured I hate the feeling of the sun beating on you rather than the heat itself. Yoga is so great, I really enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteAdmittedly I suffer in the heat. I find the room really humid and I just need fresh oxygen. But I push through and usually feel great afterwards.
DeleteWe (I) love DIY! Unfortunately my beau prefers that we don't have an arts & craft expo (x) musical as a wedding. :P
ReplyDeleteYou would have an amazing DIY wedding Charlie!!
DeleteI'd love to see your DIYs! I've done a lot of yoga, but never Bikram. Might have to give it a try-I've always been a bit wary of the heat. Even in winter I'm throwing open windows for fresh air! x
ReplyDeleteIn that case I would advise trying Bikram in winter if you ever try it. I think summer would make it difficult.
DeleteTheir chocolate chip cookies had too many chips and it tasted great. Valet parking was complimentary for us and they were professional and quick in checking in and out.

i have to admit that i'm a pilates girl, but good on you for finding something that works for you. exercise makes you feel so much better.
ReplyDeleteand yay for wedding! i was a bit of a diy bride, but don't get too carried away because it can get quite consuming. all the best for your preparations!
reckless abandon
I really want to try pilates actually! I think I might actually enjoy it more than yoga.
DeleteWhat things did you DIY? I love DIY and I have a year so hopefully won't get in over my head with it all.
I have always wanted to try Bikram Yoga, but I am so worried that I will pass out, I think this post has encouraged to give it a go.
ReplyDeleteYes! I would love to hear about your DIYing for the wedding! So exciting, it will be here before you know it!
Well you are encouraged to sit down and rest if you are feeling light-headed. Even the regular yogis take breaks frequently. And it certainly does take time to acclimatise. Worth giving a go if you want to try it.
DeleteI have the same headphones..The absoute best! I'm the worst when it comes to packing them away nicely after using them. So they've been through in my hand bag, thrown around the gym.. and they are seriously fault proof! - Loving catching up on your blog again miss x
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear they can take a beating. I've been putting them in the separate compartment in my Longchamp but sometimes they end up in the large compartment along with everything else!
DeleteYes to DIY wedding prep.
ReplyDeleteOur country area doesn't have Bikram yoga sadly as I desperately want to try it. The perks of improved flexibility sound great.
Try and give it a go next time you're in Sydney! Such a great thing to do
