Unemployed.

So I resigned yesterday.  I had no intention of resigning when I went into work but events unfolded which made me realise I could not continue to work there.  No one should be bullied or threatened by their Manager and I, unfortunately, was subject to both.

My Director, seeing how poorly my Manager's treated me, has allowed me to work as a consultant for the next 5 weeks and continue to be paid my normal salary.

I have mixed emotions at the moment.  On one hand I am elated that I no longer have to face such an evil man who is completely unprofessional and acts like a child and feels the need to be mean to a 27-year-old.  On the other hand, it's a bit of a scary world to be paying off a mortgage and paying rent in Sydney.  Definitely no more shopping for the time being.

I'll spend a few days getting over this horrid experience and then I will jump on the "looking for work" train.  If anyone needs a Service Delivery Manager/Project Manager in Sydney let me know!!!

  1. Oh my goodness Kay, I am so sorry to hear that. It's sad it ended in such a bad way and you are right no one should be bullied at work. I hope that everything works out for you and you can look back and see that it worked out better for you. I hope you find a new job that you love and can work in a nice environment. Good luck babe xoxo

  6. I think that on one hand it is absolutely fantastic that you got out of there. I've also worked in toxic work environments, and once you're out you wonder why you hadn't done it earlier.
But on the other hand, it sucks being without a job because you were bullied. It just doesn't make sense that the victim is always the one leaving, it seems.
Good luck finding a new job - I hope you get one you love quickly!

  9. That is such a tough situation to be in Kay.
But better this than having to deal with a deranged boss. Besides you're a smart woman. You will be landing a new job in no time. :-)

    All the best hun!

  14. I'm sorry you were bullied. I just realised we are in the same industry (if only you were in Perth, as I would be able to find you a job here!) and it's sickening to see the amount of bullies that exist to the point that so many good employees end up quitting. What is HR doing about it...wait HR...probably nothing ;-(

I'm sure you will find a job soon and you definitely made the right decision.

    1. I didn't know you work in IT Sass!! What role do you do?

Yeah that's the sad part about my company, my manager might be incompetent but HR and senior management allow him to do this so... shame on them?

  15. I am sorry I missed this post when it happened. I hope you're feeling better about it all now. The bullies in the workplace are such idiots, I am glad you stood up for yourself and that your Director can see what's going on. Good luck with the job search. I am so nervous about interviewing again. But I think the job market is good at the moment so it mustn't be too long before you're sat in front of a job desk again. :)
